Comfort is an enemy of growth : Renewing the mind.

Comfort is an enemy of growth : Renewing the mind.

“A comfort zone is a beautiful place – but nothing ever grows there”

Romans 12:2 says,

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—His good, pleasing and perfect will”

One of the most difficult things a person ever has to go through as they try to reclaim or pursue true fulfilment in their lives is the process of unlearning and relearning. Unlearning the things that we were taught to play it safe and relearning the things that will unleash the hunger in us for more. I have always believed that our desires are never by chance; they are from God and serve as an indication of His greater plan for our lives, especially the daring ones that we do not speak about often because they seem so out of reach even to us.

Many of us will go through seasons of our lives where we need to go through such a process for our own transformation. This could be for growth, positioning, and preparation for something that you are trusting God for. Ever heard of people saying, “You better make room for what you are praying for?” – it’s exactly that, making room for the supernatural move of God.

I have been learning recently that God will answer all your prayers, and He will supply all your needs, just not exactly how you expect. See, God has so much in store for us. Scripture in Isaiah 55:8-9 talks about how far greater God’s thoughts and ways are compared to ours. In 1 Corinthians 2:9, it states that the things that God has kept in store for us are so wonderful and mysterious that no eyes have seen nor ears have heard of them. So with this revelation, one can then imagine why God would need to take us through a process of transformation through the renewal of our minds so that we may be prepared not only to receive but to maintain the blessing that comes as an answer to our prayers. Many people have received beautiful things from God, and they have successfully fumbled their blessing because they were not prepared. May I perhaps quickly add that life is a spiritual battlefield, this is warfare. John 10:10 talks about an enemy that comes only to steal, to kill, and to destroy. The enemy could be the wrong mentality that is inclined to self-sabotage or self-destruction through our uncontrolled appetites or habits.

When I started seeing life this way, I became more optimistic and found the supernatural strength to not only embrace but also to endure the discomfort that comes with the process of renewing the mind. I am fully coming to understand and believe that indeed, as Romans 8:28 says, “He causes all things to work together for our good” and that we should give thanks in all circumstances according to 1 Thessalonians 5:18 not only when it feels good to do so. We have to learn to trade the need to be comfortable for fulfillment, because honestly we sometimes settle for far less than what we know we deserve. We are all destined for great things, but not all will see the manifestation of these great things and that is not because God has favorites [scripture tells us He shows no favoritism – Acts 10:34], but because of our unwillingness to endure discomfort that comes with the process of preparation and positioning.

It is therefore my prayer that God would help us increase our capacity to receive according Isaiah 54:2-3 because I know that I personally am nowhere close to where I should be in terms of my comprehension of His ways or the magnitude of the blessings He has in store for us, His children.

God bless you, and may you remain expectant that your obedience will unlock greater dimensions of His goodness to flow in your life!
