You don’t have as much time as you think: Be intentional.

You don’t have as much time as you think: Be intentional.

Travel light, live light, spread the light & be the light.

James 4:13-16

13 Look here, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we are going to a certain town and will stay there a year. We will do business there and make a profit.” 14 How do you know what your life will be like tomorrow? Your life is like the morning fog—it’s here a little while, then it’s gone. 15 What you ought to say is, “If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that.” 16 Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil.

While in that quiet place of prayer recently, I was reminded of the danger of assuming we have time or even worse that we have arrived. Often, we find ourselves in unfamiliar situations—sometimes by design, sometimes by chance—and must either unwillingly adapt or embrace them. Reflecting on the many moves [both spiritual and physical] that I have had to make over the past 30 years, I realized how each transition pushed me to be adaptable and ultimately shaped my resilience, agility and audacity to believe and trust. I therefore no longer get attached to places, people and things – I travel light. This has made me approach life with intentionality knowing that nothing remains the same forever.

Despite fear and imperfect timing, we must always find a way to accomplish our goals. The lesson: don’t fall into complacency or get entangled, rather act with intention

  • “No man that is in battle entangles himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who has chosen him to be a soldier”_   2 Timothy 2:4

It’s tempting to take comfort for destination, but I’m sharing this secret: life gives us windows of opportunity, each carrying the grace and resources to act effectively. Pay attention to your instincts and ask, “Will this choice bring me closer to my goals? or if I stay here what opportunities are likely to pass me by?” – this will make you more intentional in your decisions, recognizing that grace for action is not always guaranteed. Life is a journey with no actual destination but of more and more experiences to look forward to – so forget about what others are doing and focus on enriching your own life.

We build resilience, hope, and positivity by noticing and taking advantage of opportunities, not by waiting for everything to be perfect. Sometimes, opportunities show up as challenges or discomfort – prayerfully discern. When you feel it’s time to move or let go, try not to stay stuck in what’s comfortable. Trust the Lord to work it all out for you and to go before you as Romans 8:28 and Isaiah 45:2 promises. Nothing lasts forever. Life is about learning and working through problems [that’s how we gain strength and muscle to go on]. If you have problems or healthy fears, it means you’re alive and aspiring for more, so make the most of your short time.

Remember that we have been promised life and to live it in abundance_ John 10:10, let’s pursue every opportunity expectantly and fearlessly.

May the Lord grant us wisdom.
